Raised Without Antibiotics

Posted by spoiltpig.admin

At spoiltpig, our focus is always on the welfare of our pigs. We only work with British Farmers we know and trust and who share our values and beliefs. Now we’ve gone one step further, and are thrilled to be the first UK brand to produce award winning bacon from pigs who’ve been raised without the use of antibiotics from birth.

What does raised without antibiotics mean? Well, it certainly doesn’t mean our pigs have been neglected. Far from it. All our pigs are born and thrive outside until weaned, when they move into airy, warm, spacious straw-filled barns. Our partner, Brydock Farms have set up a unique farming system that periodically moves the animals to ensure ages are not mixed, thus avoiding illness, ultimately reducing the overall need for antibiotics.

Our spoiltpig bacon tastes just as good, if not better! We stand by our ethos that well cared for pigs results in the best tasting bacon. Find out more about our raised without antibiotics bacon here.

Breakfast with holidaycottages.co.uk

Posted by spoiltpig.admin

At the weekend, spoiltpig were happy to provide holidaycottages.co.uk with some of our delicious bacon for the food bloggers they were hosting to promote local food and drink. Here’s what Emma from the team had to say about the weekend.

Travelling from as far as Kent, London and even Manchester, 12 bloggers descended on Dorset to learn more about what Dorset producers have to offer in terms of locally produced goods. We provided a beautiful setting for them to stay but the real gems were the partners who provided a host of goodies for the bloggers to try out during their stay.

The weather was on our side and everyone set off for a jump on the trampoline and a game of Badminton when they arrived. After an active afternoon we had planned a delicious three course dinner to see in our first night in Dorset.

After a quiet and relaxing evening (aside from the trampolining!) the bloggers decided a leisurely lie in and breakfast was on the cards. Denhay Farms had provided a selection of local goods to go with the spoiltpig bacon, from local free range eggs to farmhouse butter and apple juice. The bloggers cooked up a storm in the kitchen and all were grateful for the delicious cooked breakfast to start their first full day in Dorset.

The rest of the weekend we continued to provide a number of delicious Dorset meals, all using local suppliers, companies, and services to ensure an authentic Dorset break. They even had enough bacon, eggs and vegetables from the weekend to cook up a bubble and squeak hash for the morning of departure when they all had long journeys home! Thank you all!

60 seconds with Ellen Streatfeild

Posted by spoiltpig.admin

This month, we’re putting Ellen Streatfeild in the spotlight in our inaugural 60 second interview. Find out what Ellen has to say about life as Promotions Manager at spoiltpig.

What’s your roll at spoiltpig?

I am involved in the marketing, so looking after spreading the spoiltpig word!

How long have you worked there?

I have been full time at spoiltpig for 7 years, but being brought up on the farm, I have packed bacon at every opportunity since we started producing it in 1994!

What makes spoiltpig special?

There are two main things that make our bacon the best – first of all it is about the well cared for pigs that are used; this really does make a difference to the flavour and texture of the meat. Secondly, it is the hand curing method that we have used right from the start that produces a delicious bacon that doesn’t ooze water and white stuff!

What the best and worst things you have had to do?

Best things – speaking to customers at shows and events and seeing their response after sampling the bacon – they always come back for more!
Worst things – nope, can’t think of anything.

What did you want to be as a child?

An astronaut!

Favourite bacon recipe?

We do tend to eat a lot of bacon in our house, it is included in most dishes! My favourite though would have to be my mum’s pheasant and bacon crumble, although the recipe is top secret!

spoiltpig celebrate going social

Posted by spoiltpig.admin

As well as launching our new packaging and our shiny new website, we’ve set-up spoiltpig’s own Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest as we’d like to keep in touch and hear what you have to say – so long as it’s about bacon, sausages or food!

To celebrate, we thought we’d kick things off with a competition…

We know most people love to get their teeth into a bacon butty, but we’re on a mission to feature the best bacon and sausage based recipes out there. So, if you have a favourite that involves bacon or the good old British banger (or both!) that you’re itching to share, then we’d love to hear about it. Just pop it on our Facebook.

The rules are simple; the recipe that obtains the most ‘Likes’ will be sent a bumper box full of our delicious spoiltpig bacon and sausages.

Closing date: 30th November

RSPCA Assured

Posted by spoiltpig.admin

The RSPCA Assured label makes it easy to recognise products from animals that have had a better life, so you can feel confident and good about your choice when shopping and eating out.

If there’s an RSPCA Assured label on the packaging of the eggs, fish and meat that you buy, you know the farms – and everyone else involved in the animals’ lives – have been inspected by our assessors.
