We regularly get asked lots of different questions about spoiltpig. Here are a selection of the most frequently asked questions:
How are your pigs farmed?
We work with our farming partner, Brydock Farms. All Brydock Farms pigs are British, outdoor bred, RSPCA Assured, and are raised from birth without the use of antibiotics.
After being bred outdoors, where the pigs can roam freely, they are moved to warm barns which are open to fresh air. Deep straw bedding is added every day, creating an environment that provides warmth and the stimulation the pigs need to move around and play.
Which breed of pigs do you use?
The pigs we use are native Large White x Landrace.
Do you rear pigs on your own farm?
We source all our pork from Brydock Farms who like us believe in the highest animal welfare and good husbandry.
Who are Brydock Farms?
Brydock Farms, based in the Scottish Highlands, is our farming partner. They rear all the pigs we use to produce our bacon and gammon.
Is all your produce British?
Yes, all our bacon and gammon is produced from pigs raised in Britain.
What does raised without antibiotics mean?
Through good heard management and the highest welfare standards, our farming partner, Brydock Farms are able to rear the pigs we use to produce our bacon and gammon without the use of antibiotics from birth. Don’t worry though, if a pig does become poorly it will receive the treatment it needs, but it will not be used for spoiltpig products.
Is raised without antibiotics better for me and the animal?
Antibiotic resistance is a natural phenomenon. However it is possible to slow and reverse resistance trends. The Alliance to Save our Antibiotics UK has found that the overuse of antibiotics in farming across the UK is a significant contributing factor to the increase in human resistance to antibiotics. We believe that all pigs should be raised to the highest welfare standards, resulting in fewer animals becoming ill and needing to be treated with antibiotics.
What happens if a pig gets ill?
In the event that one of our pigs becomes ill then they will be treated as necessary, including being prescribed antibiotics if required. However this treatment will be delivered direct to the individual animal and not the entire herd. The pig will then be tagged and processed as a regular RSPCA Assured animal without the Raised Without Antibiotics tag.
What percentage of pigs are given antibiotics?
85-90% of pigs at Brydock Farms will never be treated with antibiotics.
Why should I be bothered about buying bacon that comes from pigs raised without antibiotics?
It’s up to you to make the decision for yourself but we believe it’s essential to farm responsibly, which is better for the animals and will help sustain the farming industry in the long-term.

Do you deliver?
No, we don’t deliver but you can click here to find your nearest store.
What does dry-cured mean?
Dry curing is when the loins are bellies are rubbed by hand with a sea salt cure mix and left to cure for two to three weeks. Once cured some of the bacon is smoked naturally over beech wood, giving a subtle smoky flavour.
Did you know that most bacon is injected with a salt solution, which effects the flavour and texture of the meat resulting in the bacon shrinking and oozing that horrible water and white stuff!
Spoitlpig bacon is never pumped with water resulting in a much meatier, tastier bacon.
Does your bacon have water in it?
No. Our bacon is dry-cured and has no water in it.
Can I freeze your bacon and gammon?
Yes, you can freeze all our products, but we recommend you enjoy them within 3 months of freezing.
